Oil mist separator
Oil mist separatorThe oil mist separator must ideally correspond to the engine-specific requirements with respect to the dropled sizes to be separated, the alternating volume flow and the amount of oil present. It should also generate a low pressure loss so that a constant vacuum is ensured in the crankcase under all operating conditions. Separate or integrated pressure regulation valves provide this function. Systems with blow-by heating are provided for engine operation at extremely low temperatures.
The quality of the oil mist separator has a direct influence on the combustion and oil consumption of the engine. Oil mist separators are becoming increasingly important on account of the pollution during alternating states of high-quality components such as hot-film mass air flow meters, turbochargers, charge air cooling, or exhaust gas probes.
Owing to the straightforward construction, inertia separators such as cyclones, spiral separators, impactors, or centrifuges predominate in series production input at present.
