„Forever young“ with MAHLE
The vintage, classic and rare automobiles market is booming. This creates a profitable opportunity for engine rebuilders – provided they have the right offer: MAHLE’s Special Edition.

Opel Admiral, Fiat X 1/9, Citroën DS, Lotus Esprit: four arbitrarily selected examples representative of the fascination for automobiles of days past. More and more people develop a passion for vintage and classic cars. After all, seven percent of passenger cars registered in Germany are more than 25 years old; not to mention the large number of rare automobiles that are not registered. In total, this market may include nearly half a million vehicles in Germany.

As a result, the demand for original spare parts for these classics is also on the rise. Engine rebuilders are discovering this to be a lucrative sales niche. While the repair and maintenance of new and pre-owned vehicles is subject to unrelenting price and discount wars, the owner of a classic car is quite willing to appropriately reward the good service he receives for his “darling”. Spare part expenses are an estimated one thousand euros per year per vehicle.

However, unconditional quality of the spare part is absolutely essential. It has to be an original spare part, since a classic will only maintain its value if the spare parts are exactly the same as the original had when it rolled off the assembly line.

Therefore, MAHLE offers engine rebuilders and vintage car enthusiasts a carefully compiled collection of original pistons, cylinders and assemblies, selected from the abundant pool of nearly 90 years of original equipment experience relating to piston and engine components production. The majority of components were developed many years ago together with partners from the automotive industry. Today, MAHLE manufactures them on modern production equipment based on the original specifications.

MAHLE will offer further information about the new Special Edition at the Automechanika and will also have a comprehensive catalog available for interested enthusiasts. The expansion of this product range is planned for the coming years, based on the response the program meets with on the market.
