NEW FACELIFT: THE RENAULT LAGUNA AND ITS ESTATE BROTHER
The Renault Laguna medium-class limousine was launched in 1994 as a successor to the Renault 21. The estate, called the Grandtour by the manufacturer, followed one year later. The third generation of the French favourite appeared in the autumn of 2007. It‘s now been given a facelift. The dynamic look, which was presented for the first time at last year‘s Paris Motor Show, really suits the two French models: the front of the 2011 models now has a lower radiator grille, extra cooling air openings, striking headlights and more chrome.
INTELLIGENT STEERING
The key technical highlight of the Renault Laguna is without doubt the dynamic all-wheel steering. The principle is that at low speeds, the wheels on the rear axle turn up to 3.5 ° opposite to the front axle and reduce not just the turning circle but also allow a more direct steering ratio that greatly reduces the steering work for the driver. At speeds over 60 kmh the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels for more cornering stability.
A CLEAN SET OF SIX
You can choose between 6 engines: 2 petrol and 4 diesel. The 2.0 l engine with 103 kW (140 BHP) runs on both super and bioethanol (E85). Alternatively there is a 125 kW (170 BHP) turbocharged petrol engine. All of the 4 turbodiesels from 81 kW (110 PS) up to 131 kW (178 PS) have Common-Rail technology and come with diesel particulate filters as standard. Renault can be particularly proud of the small diesel: with 4.7 l/100 km it has one of the lowest fuel consumptions in its class—and at only 120 g CO2/km it is also one of the most environment-friendly cars in its segment.
MAHLE‘s contribution to the exemplary efficiency of the complete range of engines: pistons, piston rings and piston pins, con-rods, bearings, valve seat inserts, oil mist separators, air ducts, oil filters, fuel filters and carbon canister modules.
MAHLE ENGINE COMPONENTS AND MAHLE FILTERS ARE USED IN VEHICLES AND ENGINES OF THE FOLLOWING BRANDS: Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Case, Caterpillar, Chevrolet, Citroën, Cummins, Dacia, DAF, Deutz, Ducati, Ferrari, Fiat, Ford, GM, Harley Davidson, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Iveco, Jaguar, John Deere, Kia, Komatsu, Lancia, Land Rover, Mack Trucks, Magna Steyr, MAN, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, MWM International, New Holland, Nissan, Opel, Perkins, Peugeot, Porsche, Renault, Renault Trucks, Saab, Scania, Seat, Škoda, Smart, Steyr, Stihl, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Vauxhall, VW, Volvo, Yamaha. |
VW Jetta
The first Jetta came onto the market in 1979—as a saloon version of the Golf. VW now presents an independent limousine for the 6th generation of the Jetta. But it‘s not just the design that is trendy, the inner values are too: the new model comes with thrifty additions that can be ordered optionally with an environment-friendly start-stop system in connection with low-resistance tyres and a regenerative braking system. In the engines you will find pistons, piston rings and piston pins, con-rods, valves as well as oil filter modules from MAHLE.
Mazda 5
Mazda now offers the new 5 as a diesel too—and trusts in consistent lightweight design: the engine block of the 1.6 l unit with 85 kW (115 BHP) is made of aluminium. The compression ratio was reduced to 16:1 so as to cut the NOx emissions. The consumption figures are correspondingly positive: only 5.2 l keep the diesel model running in a standard driving cycle—meaning 15 % fuel savings compared to former 2.0 l diesel engines. MAHLE contributes pistons, piston rings and piston pins, bearings, camshafts and oil filters to the fueloptimised driving fun.
Mercedes-Benz CLS
A four-door coupé—what used to be a contradiction in itself became a new class of vehicle 7 years ago with the CLS. The second generation is now ready to go: with a sweeping body that stretches like a bow to the sharply falling rear. The new design embodies crouched tension—with an extended track, opulent wings, narrow side windows and a continuous side swage line. The list of MAHLE components is also a joy to read: valves, valve guides, valve seat inserts, air filters, oil mist separators, fuel filters, oil filters, carbon canister modules, pistons, piston rings and cylinder liners.
BMW Series 6 Convertible
The Series 6 Convertible has what it takes to become a classic: a softtop. Cleverly with no integrated rear window—this stands vertically between the C-pillars separate from the textile roof and serves as an (electrically lowerable) wind blocker when driving with the top down. BMW offered 2 different engines at the market launch of the 2+2 seater: an eight cylinder engine with 300 kW (407 BHP) and an in-line six cylinder version with 235 kW (320 BHP). The pistons, piston rings, piston pins, bearings, camshafts, air intake modules, air filters, air ducts, valve covers and oil filters from MAHLE fitted ex works are also predestined for the joy of driving.
Audi A6
The new Audi A6 is all about downsizing—and proves that this can also be an advantage for the body too: the new model is shorter and flatter than its predecessor, but just that little bit wider. The technical options (night vision device, electric steering aid for independent parking, mobile Internet connection for various mobile devices and much more) are also up to date, along with a consumption that is considerably lower than that of its predecessor. MAHLE‘s contribution: air intake modules, air filters, oil mist separators, oil filter modules, valves, pistons, piston rings and piston pins as well as con-rods.
Volvo FMX
Volvo has built the FMX especially for the tough conditions on building sites: With a front adapted to the working conditions and a new air inlet, sturdy rearview mirrors, special working lights and a 570 l steel fuel tank. Operators can choose between 2 engines with 11 l or 13 l displacement whose high torque has a positive effect at low speeds and particularly in difficult terrain. The highperformance units are fitted ex works with MAHLE pistons, piston rings and piston pins, con-rods, cylinder liners, valves, valve guides and valve seat inserts.
