Calibration Development Programs

Mapping
MAHLE Powertrain has extensive experience of engine mapping, especially with those that have more complex systems. Statistical and intelligent DoE techniques are applied where appropriate for the complexity and functional characteristics of the engine, and automated test control system processes are used to achieve significant compression of test durations.

Emissions
Future emission legislation is presenting ever-increasing challenges, especially when combined with aggressive performance and fuel economy targets. Using latest DoE techniques and past experience, MAHLE Powertrain optimizes the emission calibration on the transient dynamometer and then focuses on in-vehicle testing over specific drive and legislative cycles, to ensure robustness.

Driveability
MAHLE Powertrain can deliver engine and transmission calibrations that capture the customer's requirements and the vehicle's 'DNA'. Calibrations are developed initially on a transient dynamometer, and then in-vehicle on chassis dynamometers, where operating conditions can be closely controlled. Our final testing and validation is performed in territories representative of the intended markets.

On-Board Diagnostics
Diagnostics are an increasingly important consideration for both established and emerging markets. MAHLE Powertrain uses DoE and modeling techniques extensively (including SimulinkĀ®, MATLABĀ® and Excel models) to optimize and validate OBD monitors in compressed time scales, over both legislative test cycles and normal customer road drives.
