MAHLE increases involvement in passenger car connecting rods

MAHLE GmbH has completely taken over Schmiedewerk Roßwein GmbH. The traditional Saxon company develops and produces connecting rods for major European automotive manufacturers, such as Audi, Opel, Peugeot, Renault and VW. This acquisition will safeguard approx. 60 jobs in East Germany and help MAHLE, the worldwide leading manufacturer of engine components and filter systems, to further expand its position as a system supplier for ready-for-installation piston-connecting rod modules for engine construction.

In order to reach this strategic goal, MAHLE already acquired a majority share in Brockhaus Soehne GmbH in Plettenberg, Germany, at the beginning of 2004. The company, which is one of the world leaders for connecting rod manufacturing, shall be taken over completely in 2005.

In 2003, the MAHLE Group achieved sales of approx. 3.2 billion euros, while employing more than 30,000 employees in over 60 production locations, making MAHLE one of the 30 principal automotive suppliers throughout the world.
