MAHLE opens Chinese headquarters with an integrated Technical Center in Shanghai/China
STUTTGART, May 2, 2006—MAHLE celebrated on April 19, 2006, the opening of the Chinese Headquarters in Shanghai—MAHLE Technologies Holding (China)—with a ceremonial inauguration.
Prof. Dr. Heinz K. Junker, CEO of the MAHLE Group, and Dr. Klaus P. Bleyer, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the MAHLE GmbH, were happy to see that ca. 200 invitees—representatives from politics and customers—were able to join this important event. "To open such a new facility in China at this time is not a matter of course. But we look ahead and are convinced that the automotive market in China will play an important role in the future. We want to participate in this market development and want to give our customers in China the best service. This new facility will help lay down a solid and reliable foundation for all of our customers in China", said Prof. Junker.
MAHLE has purchased a total area of 140.000 m² in the Shanghai Fengpu Industrial Park in Fenxian District (ca. 50 km outside the center of Shanghai) and built the new headquarters on an area of ca 26.000 m². The new facility serves two main functions: First, centralizing the key functions such as Sales, Human Resources, IT and Finance for all eight MAHLE production plants currently operating in China. Second, the integrated Development Center covers functions such as Design, Calculation, Component Testing, Engine Testing, as well as Electronics and Chemical Laboratories and Metallography. The Development Center serves the local market with its specific requirements. It will be integrated into the network of existing Development Centers in Stuttgart/Germany, Northampton/England, Detroit/USA (Farmington Hills and Novi), São Paulo/Brazil and Tokyo/Japan and work closely together with them.
Today, MAHLE produces in its eight plants in China already a wide range of components and systems for the internal combustion engine and its peripherals, including pistons, piston castings, bearings, air, oil, fuel filter modules and other components. MAHLE is planning to build up more plants in the future in China, to localize the production of its full range of products. "In 2005, we generated nearly 20% of the Group's total turnover in Asia, and it is our strategic goal to triple the turnover in China until 2010", said Prof. Junker.
