Motorsports and Special Engines
MAHLE has long been at home in international motorsport as a developer and systems partner. For decades, the most prominent national and international racing series and motorsport events have been won with MAHLE engine components. In Formula 1, the World Rally Championship (WRC), the German Touring Masters (DTM), the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), MotoGP motorcycle races, offshore powerboat races, and many other racing classes, MAHLE is a guarantee for success.
In Le Mans, for example, the winners of the 24-hour race have crossed the finish line with MAHLE pistons for 20 years in a row. From 2006 to 2010, the Audi team won with the 5.5-liter Audi R10 TDI, making history with the first diesel engine in Le Mans. In 2012 and 2013, the 3.7-liter V6 Audi R18 e-tron followed suit as the first hybrid vehicle. With the highest specific power output in the world, these diesel engines demonstrate maximum reliability and performance under the toughest conditions.
All of the core processes for motorsport are housed together in the MAHLE motorsport plant in Fellbach/Germany. The sales team is located here, along with development and design. Among the products manufactured are pistons and cylinder liners for motorsport and high-performance series engines, piston pins, connecting rods, water pumps, as well as NIKASIL® coating and honing of bushing-less cylinder crankcases. The Fellbach plant additionally handles all products for aviation applications.
Our locations in Great Britain specialize in special engines. In Worcester and Wellingborough, cylinder heads and engine blocks are cast and machined, and complete engines are assembled in series production. We manufacture high-quality bearing shells for motorsport engines in the Kilmarnock plant.
