General guidelines

MAHLE uses ENGDAT, a European standard developed by ODETTE for electronic data exchange (EDI) between the automotive industry and its suppliers. MAHLE needs ENGDAT due to its security, transmission speed, and compatibility.

In addition, automatic data import is supported only in ENGDAT format. Suppliers that wish to have a remote data transfer connection are requested to inform themselves about the technical requirements.

  • For successful data transmission using ENGDAT, the guidelines concerning the ENGDAT file name, packages, and abstract file must be followed. For further information, please refer to the VDA recommendations.
  • Supported standards:
    VDA 4914/2 OFTP
    VDA 4951 ENGDAT (Engineering Data Message)
    VDA 4951 ENGPART (Engineering Partner Data)
  • CATIA V5, Pro/ENGINEER, and NX assemblies must be packaged using tar or WINZIP. Permissible compression formats: gzip or WINZIP
  • Data exchange with external partners takes place online via remote data transfer (RDT) using OFTP (ODETTE File Transfer Protocol) and ENGDAT. For partners with no OFTP software, an Internet-based solution is available.

The standard exchange format for MAHLE is native data exchange for CATIA and Pro/ENGINEER and NX.

Neutral geometry formats
The following formats are available in CATIA V4, CATIA V5, Pro/ENGINEER, and NX:

  • VDAFS 2.0 (not CATIA V5)
  • IGES 5.2
  • STEP AP 214 CC2
  • DXF
